The Association for Welfare of the Handicapped popularly known as "AWH" was organized in the year 1973. It was registered under the Society Registration Act (Act of 1860). with registration number 26 of 1975 dated 29-03-1975. The mission of AWH is" Facilitating Rehabilitation of people with all kind of Disabilities and welfare of women in distress and children". Our school AWH Special school for Mentally Challenged-Kottakkal is situating under the Association for Welfare of the Handicapped-Calicut. The school was started on 06-12-1996.Our school have PWD Regisration. (Regn. No.SJD/841/2023-RPWDI) Now there are 110 mentally challenged children are studying in this Institution. And have 14 staffs are working in this Institution.
Admission Criteria: The school giving admission for all type of mentally challenged children like mild, moderate, severe, profound cases and Autistic children. The classes are classified according to the IQ level of pupil. They are, Preprimary, Primary, Secondary, Pre vocation and Vocation. Gives promotion from the lower class to higher class according to their progress.
Achievements of the School: We are giving good class room training, speech therapies, physio therapies, vocational training for our students without any fees with the full support of dedicated staffs and management. Our school have participated all Annual state and district special school arts and sports meets and got overall championships in many times and also gained Overall in this year for Malappuram district-2010 Onwards till 2025. And also won in the state level in different sports and games in many times.
Conclusion: We concludes that our school is situating as a great Institution for the Rehabilitation of all type of disabled children mainly mentally challenged children and Autistic children and we pray Almighty God for materializing our pious hopes and aspirations for the development and progress of this institution. We are thankful to our various well wishers, donors from the country and abroad, state and central governments. We profusely thanks to them and also pray for them.
