AWH Special School for Mentally Handicapped, Calicut University, Kodakkad

AWH Special School, which trains students facing physical and mental challenges, started in 1992 with about 40 students in a rented building at Calicut University. In 2013, it was expanded to include more than 100 students at Kodakkad, Ariyallur Village, Vallikunnu Grama Panchayat, Parappanangadi BRC limits, Tirurangadi Block, Malappuram District.

Currently, this institution is functioning with about 88 students and offers free physiotherapy, speech therapy, craft, music, sports, and special education. The services of about ten teachers and non-teaching staff, including the head teacher, are available in the institution. The students have ramp facilities, separate bathrooms for boys and girls, clean drinking water facilities, a kids park, a spacious playground, a badminton court, and students are also trained in gardening, agriculture, paper bag, medicine cover, flower making, off-file making, and door mat. Every year, the students of this institution excel in the fields of district and state sports and arts. A strong school PTA has always been with the growth of the institution. In addition, this institution has been functioning as an RCI lab school of the Chettipady Government Training Center for many years. Medical camps for children, awareness classes for parents, The Legal Awareness Class of the Parappanangadi Legal Service Wing also provides teaching practice facilities to MR Special B.Ed, HI and D.Ed students. This institution also has CCTV facilities for the safety of the students.

Guru Shreshtha Award Conferred to Satyabhama Cheruth
The first-ever Guru Shreshtha Award presented by the Voice of World Malayali Council has been conferred to renowned educationist and social worker Satyabhama Cheruth.
The award is a recognition of her dedicated contributions in the fields of education and social service. The council officials stated that her lifelong commitment to educational excellence and community upliftment led to this honour.
On July 26, at a special ceremony in Thiruvananthapuram, Honourable Kerala Governor Shri Arif Mohammed Khan will present the award to Satyabhama Cheruth
