Rahmaniya School for Mentally Handicapped, Kozhikode

Rahmaniya School for Mentally Handicapped, located near the Medical College in Calicut (PIN 673008), was established on January 1, 1992, with a mission to provide quality education and care for mentally challenged children. As a special school, it offers both educational and hostel facilities tailored to meet the unique needs of its students. Over the years, the school has positively impacted the lives of 72 children, including both current and former students. Rahmaniya School has earned recognition through several notable achievements, including securing the overall championship in the Disability Day Sports Competition organized by the District Social Justice Department at Devagiri. One of its students, Muhammad, won first place with an A grade in the state-level painting competition held during the Special School Kalolsavam in Kannur. Furthermore, students of the school earned multiple gold and silver medals at the Special Olympics held from December 27 to 30, 2024. The school receives funding through government aid packages and contributions from the Association for the Welfare of the Handicapped (AWH). It has also been honored by visits from important officials such as the Assistant Educational Officer (AEO), Deputy Director (DD), and the Health Inspector. Looking ahead, the school envisions developing a fully equipped facility with a comprehensive vocational training center and a dedicated school bus to enhance accessibility and service delivery for its students.
